Job Description

The Center for the Study of Organized Hate (CSOH) is seeking an experienced Researcher on Disinformation & Influence Operations to conduct multi-country research on foreign information manipulation and interference (FIMI) operations, transnational mis- and disinformation, and coordinated efforts against information integrity affecting democratic institutions and vulnerable communities worldwide. This role will examine influence operations originating from multiple regions, including but not limited to South Asia, Europe, North America, and Southeast Asia, and assess their cross-border impact on public discourse, information ecosystems, and at-risk populations. 

The ideal candidate has deep expertise in digital ecosystems, OSINT, disinformation, influence operations, and platform manipulation techniques. They will lead multi-jurisdictional investigations, collaborate with global partners, and produce high quality publications including reports, policy briefs, and short form analyses.

This role is central to CSOH’s growing work on foreign interference, transnational digital harms, and coordinated online extremist networks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead investigations into global foreign influence operations, coordinated disinformation campaigns, and cross-border information manipulation efforts.
  • Analyze influence operations originating from multiple regions, including but not limited to South Asia, Europe, and North America, and assess how these operations impact democratic discourse and vulnerable communities.
  • Conduct OSINT-driven monitoring of narratives, actors, networks, symbols, channels, and tactics used across platforms.
  • Oversee data collection and analysis of large-scale datasets from social media and digital sources. Ensure the confidentiality and ethical handling of sensitive content.
  • Identify and monitor patterns in transnational disinformation campaigns that disproportionately affect South Asian diasporic, minority, or at-risk populations.
  • Produce high quality long and short form publications such as reports, policy briefs, rapid-response analyses, and explainers.
  • Translate complex investigative findings into clear and accessible outputs for policy and media audiences.
  • Coordinate with CSOH’s partners across the EU, UK, US, Canada, Australia, South Asia, and Southeast Asia.
  • Contribute to multi-country research initiatives and joint investigative or advocacy partnerships.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Master’s degree or equivalent professional experience in the related field.
  • 3+ years of experience researching disinformation, foreign influence operations, digital extremism, or platform manipulation.
  • Proven expertise with OSINT tools, investigative workflows, and cross-platform research.
  • Strong understanding of digital ecosystems in Europe, the UK, North America, and/or South Asia, including transnational connections.
  • Knowledge of platform governance frameworks, election integrity mechanisms, and regulatory environments (e.g., Digital Services Act, Online Safety Act) is desired.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fully remote work environment.
  • Experience working with think tanks, research institutions, academic centres, or civil society organizations.
